Running the London marathon on Sunday, what a fantastic experience. A big thank you to all my family who stood out in the pouring rain, seeing them at 23 miles really lifted me for the final push. The crowds were amazing without them I don't think I would have been able to finish, for everyone who shouts encouragement you have absolutely no idea how much it helps. To all the people who hand out the drinks, jelly babies, chocolate, biscuits, cheese sandwiches - thank you.
A big thank you to every one who have given me words of
encouragement and supported me throughout the whole experience
from training, through to fundraising, sponsorship and after
- THANKYOU -
The day was just fantastic I still can't believe that I took part and completed
the London marathon, fulfilling a life time ambition
To all the other runners well done, the day was overwhelming; the support for charities across the board is superb. Not enough words to describe the feelings inside: the start pushing on to 6 miles at the cutty sark, the first ten miles, reaching the half way point and watching the elite runners clocking up their last few miles. Completing 20, 21, 22 and 23 miles, supporters saying your nearly there, passing the London eye, running along the embankment. Finding the reserve strength for miles 23, 24, 25 and 26. Running through injury, aches and pains. The final push for the last 800 metres. Crossing the line and collecting my medal. The aches and pains don't matter, my time of four hours 57 minutes achieving my goal of beating five hours. Officially placed 25,184th I am confident over £500:00 pounds has been raised so far, I'm keeping my fingers crossed there will be more to come-it's not too late to donate, every penny counts. Once again A Big Thank you.
Flora London Marathon 2006 race report
What a fantastic day!
Thousands successfully pounded their way through London's rain soaked streets to complete this year's Flora London Marathon.Even the overcast and drizzly conditions couldn't dampen the spirits of the participants - this year's race was an inspirational and spectacular sight. Everyone from elite runners to fun comedy-dressed characters all toughing it out to successfully reach the finish line at The Mall near Buckingham Palace. A total of 33,598 runners set off from Blackheath in a festival atmosphere early on Sunday morning, to follow a route which takes in some of the city's most notable landmarks - including the Cutty Sark, the London Eye, Canary Wharf, the Tower of London, the Houses of Parliament, Tower Bridge, London Bridge, and the Thames Barrier. The cheers and shouts of encouragement from an estimated half a million spectators lining the streets along the way - as well as entertainment from an array of bands and street entertainers - helped a remarkable 32,890 runners to make it past the finish line to claim their well-earned finisher's medals. The elite men's race was won by Felix Limo in a time of 2:06:39. He was closely followed by Martin Lel in second place, and Hendrick Ramaala in third. The women's race was taken by Deena Kastor in a time of 2:19:36, followed by Lyudmila Petrova in second place, and Susan Chepkemei in third.
