Through English at Hunters Hill we seek to : Raise standards of achievement in all subject areas by raising pupils literacy skills. Our aim is to focus on curriculum continuity, targeted support for all pupils and the explicit teaching of skills through a range of interesting topics. Importance is placed on providing a varied range of stimulating materials and on the use of ICT. Reading: Greater emphasis is placed on the ability to read (both in school and in the home setting) to enable access to the curriculum and for enjoyment. we celebrate and reward all achievements in reading no matter how small. The topics we cover In Year 7 include: Ourselves Journeys : Book Topic : Natural Phenomena : "Mr William Shakespeare" (Introduction to Life & Times) In year 8 we cover the following topics: Heroes & Villains : the Sea : Sport & Leisure : Machines & Transport : Shakespeare: Romeo & Juliet In Year 9 we study the following topics: Dinosaurs & The Lost World : Media - The News : Shakespeare: Macbeth : Mysteries & Legends In Year 10. we cover English through the medium of Business Studies (See apropriate area). In Year 11 . English is covered through the practise of basic skills in a way that is true to life and meaningful for learners about to leave school and enter the world of work.
